Job Description – Pipe Trades Apprentice (Entry Level)

A United Association apprentice is an entry-level trainee who works under the supervision of experienced journeymen to learn the pipe trades through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Duties include assisting with the layout, assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems such as steam, hot water, process piping, HVAC, and other specialized systems. Apprentices learn to read and interpret blueprints, follow safety procedures, and properly use hand and power tools. Training also covers skills such as pipe threading, cutting, welding preparation, fabrication, and equipment installation. Over the course of the apprenticeship, individuals gain progressive knowledge of plumbing, pipefitting, welding, and HVAC disciplines, while developing the professionalism, work ethic, and safety awareness required to advance toward journeyman status.
